About me and what my abstract paintings represent

Why I love making abstract paintings

As an abstract artist, my work is deeply inspired by the untamed beauty of the natural world.

I draw from the raw, remote landscapes and organic shapes that I encounter while travelling, hiking, camping and exploring the outdoors. The freedom of movement and the boundless energy of nature are central themes in my practice, reflected through my use of fluid lines, blended colours, and dynamic compositions. I try to capture the essence of wild nature — the unpredictability, the tranquility, and the intense vibrancy that can only be found in unspoiled environments.

Through abstraction, I can break free from the constraints of realism, allowing me the freedom of expression and the viewer the chance to experience nature not as a literal representation, but as a visceral and emotional response. My work embraces spontaneity and intuition, with every brushstroke and colour choice echoing the freedom I feel when immersed in nature. For me, art is not just about creating a visual piece, but about evoking a connection to the untamed world outside — a world that is constantly evolving, shifting, and inspiring new forms of expression.

When I step into my studio it is my time to play.

The distractions of every day life are shut out, alone in my world of remembered landscapes, colour, exploration, curiosity, spontaneity and risk. Take risks with no consequences, have no expectations, be curious, playful and free to experiment.

Don’t have a plan, be spontaneous, intuitive, play and enjoy life!

Painting for me, is how I feel in that moment, not right or wrong, it just is. It’s like a diary entry, a moment in time. Inspired by the landscape but not necessarily painting it, in a representational way, it’s more a feeling , an excitement, a curiosity. I like old furniture that has a history, an old school desk which the kids have carved there name into, ancient rock art telling stories of wild animals and hunting parties, old houses where each layer removed reveals something new to me and I love clouds, all these things find their way into my work somehow.
