My abstract paintings- A journey through Wild Landscapes
As an abstract artist, my work is deeply inspired by the untamed beauty of the natural world.
I draw from the raw landscapes and organic shapes that I encounter while travelling, hiking, and camping in the wild outdoors. The freedom of movement and the boundless energy of nature are central themes in my practice, reflected through my use of fluid lines, blended colours, and dynamic compositions. I seek to capture the essence of wild nature — the unpredictability, the serenity, and the intense vibrancy that can only be found in unspoiled environments.
Through abstraction, I break free from the constraints of realism, allowing the viewer to experience nature not as a literal representation, but as a visceral and emotional response. My work embraces spontaneity and expression, with every brushstroke and colour choice echoing the freedom I feel when immersed in nature. For me, art is not just about creating a visual piece, but about evoking a connection to the untamed world outside — a world that is constantly evolving, shifting, and inspiring new forms of expression.
Translating Nature Into Abstract Art
When I’m working on a painting, I think of the colours, shapes, and lines that I see when I’m out there in the wild. The vibrant hues of a sunset, the deep greens of a forest, or the turquoise blues of a lake—these become the palette for my abstract compositions. But it's not just about mimicking nature’s colours. It's about capturing that rawness, that energy that hits you when you're standing at the edge of a cliff, looking into a deep canyon, wind rushing past you.
Organic shapes emerge in my work like the curves of a river or the jagged edges of a mountain range. There’s no formula for how these elements come together; they grow organically, just as the natural world does. Lines are drawn with a kind of urgency, much like a sudden thunderstorm that rolls in unexpectedly. The composition is dynamic, constantly shifting, as if it’s still in motion, just like the landscapes I’m inspired by.
The Freedom of Spontaneity
One of the most liberating aspects of nature—and abstract painting—is the freedom to embrace spontaneity. In the wild, there’s no plan. You go where the trail takes you, you adapt to the weather, and you let the experience unfold. The same goes for my art. I don’t approach a canvas with a rigid idea of how the painting will turn out. I allow the process to surprise me, to lead me in directions I hadn’t planned. This freedom is essential to my work; it’s what gives it life and energy. Just as nature is ever-changing, so is my art.
In Conclusion: The Wild and the Painted Canvas
Ultimately, my abstract art is a reflection of my love for the untamed, the unpredictable, and the raw power of nature. When I paint, I’m not just creating shapes and colours—I’m expressing an emotion, a moment in time, a feeling I get when I’m out in the wilderness. It’s the freedom of being away from it all, where you can get lost in the natural world and come back with something new to offer. My hope is that when you look at my paintings, you feel a little bit of that wildness, that untamed energy, and maybe even find a little freedom for yourself, too.
